Katelynn Grzybek: Increasing Climate Literacy in the Central Valley

Written by Katelynn Grzybek, Sierra Nevada AmeriCorps Partnership (SNAP) member at Sequoia Riverlands Trust, July 2024

This week, I am helping run the Sequoia Environmental Education Directive (SEED) Institute. It is the early stages of a collaboration between local educators to prepare lessons and fieldtrips for K-12 that are focused on climate change and in alignment with NGSS.

In two weeks I will lead another teacher training for afterschool program leaders to execute the 6 week curriculum for 1-3 grade that I wrote. The program is called “Nature Explorers” and is a partnership between VUSD afterschool program and Sequoia Riverlands Trust.

Funding for SNAP is supported by Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation’s Nature Fund and Martis Fund – a collaborative project of Martis Camp landowners, DMB/Highlands Group (the developers of Martis Camp), Mountain Area Preservation Foundation (MAP), and Sierra Watch. Sierra Nevada Alliance is a proud grantee of AmeriCorps and California Volunteers, Office of the Governor.
