On April 27, Sierra Nevada Alliance convened California’s Natural Resources Agency (CNRA) Secretary Wade Crowfoot, Deputy Secretary of Biodiversity and Habitat Jennifer Norris, Deputy Secretary for Access Katherine Toy, and over 50 participants representing Sierra Nevada conservation organizations for a productive conversation about the Sierra Nevada’s role in enacting California’s 30×30 initiative. The goal of 30×30 is to conserve an additional 30% of California’s land and water by 2030.
Community presentations highlighted examples of efforts to advance 30×30, and how the initiative helps promote our collective conservation and restoration goals. These goals benefit the Sierra Nevada and the state’s water supply, air quality, carbon-storing forests, and premier recreation.
Roundtable discussions focused on local challenges and how to continue advancing multi-benefit projects that protect Sierra Nevada’s natural resources, build water and wildfire resilience, address environmental protection and access to nature inequities, and bolster regional and local economies.
Thank you to CNRA, the incredible speakers, our partners at Sierra Business Council, Outdoor Alliance, and Power in Nature CA, and all who attended.
We look forward to leveraging our conversations to strategically address challenges and increase our impact in advocating for resource investments for the entire Sierra Nevada.
