We are rescheduling for SUNDAY, MAY 7, due to rain. We are still accepting reservations. If you need to reserve a spot, please check Eventbrite for more information.

We invite you to join the Sierra Nevada Alliance and the Sierra Club – Mother Lode Chapter as we bring Molly Ferry, Plant Ecologist, to share her vast knowledge of wildflowers in the Sierra Nevada.

You’ll have the opportunity to walk through the Magnolia Ranch in Pilot Hill and learn about the colorful flowers in the area. This fun and intimate event will allow you to engage with Molly and Jenny Hatch, the Executive Director of the Sierra Nevada Alliance.

Bring water, sunscreen, layered clothes, sturdy shoes, and a sack lunch.

Meet at Magnolia Ranch Trailhead at 10:50 am to chat about safety and sign our liability waiver. The Walk & Talk will begin at 11 am.

We’ve updated the location to a nearby trail for better wildflower viewing and river access.

Wildflowers expected:

If the weather allows, we will be wandering through abundant spring wildflowers of the Sierra foothills including Fiddleneck, Gilia, Whiskerbrush, Prettyface, Clarkias, Brodiaeas, Alliums, Pincushion, Redmaids, Owl’s Clover, Mariposa Lilies, California poppy and Delphinium. Early reports show the presence of flowers on Whiteleaf Manzanita, Shooting Star and the unusual California Dutchman’s Pipe.

About Molly:

Molly has been a botanist in Northern California for 24 years, mainly practicing in riparian areas and high Sierra meadows. She completed her undergrad in Botany and her masters in Plant Ecology. She has extensive experience performing monitoring and restoration work across a range of landscape types (fire areas, meadows, roadsides, rivers, floodplains) and bodes a strong background in rare plant conservation. She is especially keyed into native vs. non-native plants and will happily identify and familiarize anyone interested in the names and/or plant families of flora. Her enthusiasm is contagious for spring wildflower populations in the Sierra foothills.

She will use the applications iNaturalist, Seek, and eJepson to enhance your appreciation for properly identified flora.
