Sierra Foothills Hiking Club: Edwards Crossing to Purdon Crossing
May 6, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm
The local Sierra Nevada Sierra Club group is starting up a monthly hiking series. Whether you are new to Nevada County or a lifetime resident, get outside and meet new like-minded locals on this iconic hike with beautiful views of the Yuba river.
About the hike:
The hike will be guided by longtime Sierra Club hiking leaders. There will be two options for the hike (both out and back), one option is 4 miles, and one is 8.4 miles. The two groups will start at the same time and hike the first two miles together, at the two mile marker, the group doing the shorter hike will turn back and the group doing the longer route will continue to Purdon Crossing. Both hikes are considered intermediate due to the terrain that can be narrow and rocky at times.
What to bring:
Please be sure to wear proper hiking attire. Don’t forget to bring water, snacks and lunch. We will stop halfway through and take a lunch break before turning around. We recommend wearing a small backpack or fanny pack to carry everything on the hike.
Leashed dogs are welcome on the hike. If your dog is not good around crowds or with other dogs we kindly ask to leave your pup at home.
Getting to the trailhead:
Meet at 10:00 am at Edwards Bridge. From Nevada City, take highway 49 to North Bloomfield Road and take that all the way to the bridge. There should be plenty of parking on either side of the bridge. There will be a quick introduction while we will establish the two groups, form a buddy system, and go over a quick safety rundown before we start.
Additional info:
- We are capping the hike at 40 people for trail safety so if you want to attend please grab a free ticket. Since we are limiting spots, please only place an order for a ticket/tickets if you are committed to attending the hike.
- Leashed dogs are welcome on the hike. If your dog is not good around crowds or with other dogs we kindly ask to leave your pup at home.
