Forest Futures Salon – Cultural Burning & Prescribed Fire: How they work & why they are necessary
January 26, 2022 @ 4:00 pm - 5:15 pm
Join us for a conversation about the necessity of Cultural Burning and Prescribed Fire on our landscapes. Zeke Lunder and Vikki Preston will discuss the differences and similarities between the two practices and why both are necessary to create more resilient forests. Vikki will discuss Traditional Ecological Knowledge and Indigenous land management practices, while Zeke will cover landowner prescribed burning associations.
Our Forest Futures Salons are tailored to build community engagement and awareness on the challenges with forest health in our region and the collaborative action that is taking place. In our upcoming Salons, we’ll explore what happens when fire hits our forests, how decisions are made and fires are fought, and what happens to the landscape after a fire. We will highlight the work being done right here in our region, including fuel reduction, restoration and wood innovation projects, all of which aim to reduce the risk of catastrophic wildfires.
