Introducing Meghan Hertel, the California Natural Resources Agency’s new Deputy Secretary for Biodiversity and Habitat

The California Natural Resources Agency is thrilled to welcome Meghan to the 30×30 California Team!

“It’s an honor to join California’s 30×30 movement in conserving California’s lands and coastal waters as these are places that are deeply meaningful to me personally. I am excited to be part of a dedicated coalition of people, communities and organizations protecting and restoring California’s unique and diverse landscape for biodiversity, public access, and climate change adaptation and mitigation.” – Meghan Hertel

Meghan has been North American Director for Land Life since 2022. She held multiple positions at Audubon California from 2010 to 2022, including Director of Land and Water Conservation. Meghan was Conservation Program Administrator at the Resources Legacy Fund from 2007 to 2010. She earned a Master of Arts degree in Environmental Science and Policy from Clark University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Florida. In her free time you can catch her biking or hiking, or doing anything outdoors!

Meghan will be sworn into office mid-February. We look forward to Meghan’s vision and leadership as we continue to work together on achieving the 30×30 goal!
