Description

As part of the Tahoe Winter Exploration Series, the Tahoe Institute for Natural Science (TINS) and the Tahoe Rim Trail Association (TRTA) have partnered to provide winter excursions on the first Thursday of each month in January, February, and March.

Discover the wonders of winter during a fun and educational snowshoe trek to Picnic Rock. Located on Tahoe’s North Shore, this excursion will take you through pine forests until you reach scenic vistas of Lake Tahoe. While being guided by trained TRTA Guides, TINS naturalist, Sarah Hockensmith, will discuss winter ecology concepts and the survival strategies and adaptations employed by animals in the Lake Tahoe Region. This three-mile, moderately difficult, out-and-back hike is family-friendly, appropriate for ages 12 and up.
