What: This is a sunset walk of sagebrush scrub, admiring the Sierra Nevada behind us. We will be walking East, looking at the wildflowers, talking about these ecosystems, and watching the almost full moon rise above the Bodie Hills. We will admire the open landscape in the moonlight and see if there are planets and stars to seek out as we walk through the area in a different light. We will be walking in areas with good footing and stable ground as the sun sets and the moon rises. The walk will be 1.5 miles in total, with less than 400 ft of altitude gain starting at around 7000 ft. This walk will be easy to moderate depending on the light of the moon, but is going to be on areas that have been graded by machinery over time. Please bring a headlamp/flashlight (we are hoping not to need it), a jacket, a beanie/hat, and good walking shoes, along with anything else needed to keep yourself comfortable out there. Be prepared for chilly or windy weather.

Where: Meet at the Buckeye Hot Springs Parking Lot on Buckeye Rd. The Buckeye Road is closed from the 395 but the parking lot can be reached from the Twin Lakes Road, and then taking the well graded and maintained FS 017 road from Doc and Al’s Resort.

When: July 1st, July 31st, August  30th 7:45pm, and September 28th at  6:30pm

Register by emailing Lindsay@friendsoftheinyo.org  Since participation is capped.
