Bear Yuba Land Trust’s Celebration of Trails Art Walk June 2023

Celebration of Trails in June 2023 will consist of a variety of fun activities to get the family outside on the trails. In collaboration with local artists there will be art installations on four of our local trails. Art out on the trail can illustrate both the identity of the trail itself and the community that surrounds it. We believe that art can cultivate vision and inspire change in the surrounding community. This will be the first year the Bear Yuba Land Trust has invested in art as a means to get folks out on the trail. We hope this next year’s Celebration of Trails will not only inspire the community but inspire local artists to interact with the outdoor community.

The guidelines for the art curated is that the installation be durable enough to be outside for the entire month of June. The art piece should be about the community or try to represent the trail specifically. We want to allow the artists to have as much creative interpretation as possible. The installations do not have to be new pieces of work, if there is something you have in mind that is already made, feel free to send that over as well. Final ideas/submissions will be sent to our Community Engagement Manager, Aleena Church – aleena@bylt.org. All artists will be working with Aleena on logistics and details of the installation, to make sure everyone is supported in this work.

Bear Yuba Land Trust is working on obtaining grants and fundraising to support artists in their work. We hope to pay for the materials needed for the installations, at minimum. If possible, please try and gather donated materials from local stores. This is an amazing opportunity to showcase yourself as an artist in our community.

• Hirschman’s Trail (Nevada City)
• Deer Creek Tribute Trail (Nevada City)
• Cascade Canal Trail (Nevada City)
• Wolf Creek Trail (Grass Valley)
• Alan Thiesen Trail (Alta Sierra)
