This is the FINAL of 3 public meetings and will provide an opportunity for input, feedback, and conversation. At this meeting, the project team will review the input received at our prior two public meetings and via the input map, and examine areas of consensus.

“BIRPI” is being completed by the Eastern Sierra Council of Governments in partnership with the Inyo National Forest, and with participation from the Bureau of Land Management, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, and Inyo County. It is funded by a grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation. This project was identified as a regional sustainable recreation priority back in 2021 as part of the Sustainable Recreation & Tourism Initiative.

Since 2021, when the project was envisioned, so much has changed, with significant flooding damage to the area due to the record setting 22-23 winter in the Eastern Sierra.

BIRPI Phase 1 includes installation of a double vault toilet. The toilet has been installed!

BIRPI Phase 2 includes conceptual recreation planning focusing on the interconnected nature of recreation activities in the project area and the documentation of needs and gaps for future recreation infrastructure improvements.
