23rd Annual Snapshot Day
May 20, 2023 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm
Be a citizen scientist for the day!
Snapshot Day is an annual water quality monitoring event that takes place each May. Groups of volunteers fan out across the Truckee River Watershed to take samples from creeks, streams, and lakes – including Lake Tahoe – to capture a snapshot of Tahoe’s water quality at a moment in time.
Volunteers of all ages and skill levels are encouraged to join us as we sample various sites around South Lake Tahoe for things like dissolved oxygen, pH, nutrients, and more! Volunteers can sign up to join an already existing team, create a team of their own with family and friends, or be a Team Lead at their site. Team Leads will receive training prior to the event on how to most accurately collect the needed data for the day so they can guide their team of citizen scientists to success!
Register: RSVP by filling out this waiver today! Once you have RSVP’d, we will follow up with an email for you to choose your preferred sampling area and role for the day.
Location: Lake Tahoe Community College (1 College Dr, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150). Sampling will take place at various sites around South Lake Tahoe.
Time: Sampling: 9 am – noon | Lunch and Fun: noon – 1 pm
What to bring: Sturdy shoes, long pants, weather-appropriate layers, sun protection including hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen, and a full reusable water bottle.
We provide: Safety materials, sampling materials, training, snacks, free lunch, and cool giveaways.
- Final details and an event reminder will be sent a few days prior to the event date to registered volunteers.
- Volunteers under 18 will need to have a guardian sign the waiver, and the volunteer must bring the signed waiver to the event. The guardian may also attend the event and can sign off for the minor at the event.
