World Migratory Bird Day 2022

May 14, 2022 - May 15, 2022

Come bird with us at ESLT’s Black Lake Preserve in celebration of World Migratory Bird Day! Black Lake is a rare desert wetland north of Benton in Adobe Valley that is an important stopover site for migratory birds. The alkali lakes and wetlands in Adobe Valley provide a great environment for our feathered friends to rest and refuel during migration.

Join us for a guided bird walk on May 14th at Black Lake Preserve to spot these visiting birds, or use our self-guided birding materials on May 15th to bird on your own! If you can’t make it out to Black Lake Preserve, we will provide information for self-guided birding at the Bishop Paiute Reservation Conservation Open Space (COSA). Times and meeting locations will be provided soon.

This event will also be a community science effort to document the birds that we see. You don’t have to be a scientist to participate in community science! After you document the birds we see, scientists will learn from your observations. Data gathered from community science informs conservation decisions and can track what is happening in the natural world in real time. Please let us know which birds you observe or use the eBird app. You can find a guide to using eBird here.

Please RSVP to Claire at claire@eslt.org for updates.
