AB 30 and AB 2278 – A win for nature

Last month, Governor Gavin Newsom signed AB 30 and AB 2278 into law. This is a big win for the Sierra!

AB 2278 requires California to implement its Pathways to 30×30 Strategy and the goal to conserve 30% of our lands and waters by 2030. It also establishes annual reporting to the Legislature on California’s progress on achieving the 30×30 goal. In other words, this bill helps solidify 30×30 as an operational reality for California with true accountability and transparency. Importantly, this bill ensures that 30×30 will persist in California until 2030 even as administrations change. The Sierra Nevada Alliance extends a huge thanks to Audubon California who sponsored the bill and many organizations throughout the Sierra Nevada for their work on AB 2278.

AB 30 establishes the Equitable Outdoor Access Act, which sets forth the state’s commitment to ensure all Californians can benefit from and have meaningful access to, the state’s rich cultural and natural resources.
