Christmas Bird Count with the Tahoe Institute for Natural Science!
The Christmas Bird Count (CBC) is widely regarded as the largest and oldest citizen science project in the world. Each year, from 14 December through 5 January, tens of thousands of volunteers head out into the winter to count birds for a day. This tradition goes back to 1900, and in the intervening years, these birders have built a database on bird populations that is unmatched by any other wildlife census. TINS Co-founder Will Richardson has coordinated the South Lake Tahoe CBC since 2004.
Date: December 17th, 2016
Location: Alpina Coffee Cafe, South Lake Tahoe, 8am.
Details: Group will bird at Cove East together and then split into groups to bird at other areas. A pizza party, complementary of TINS will conclude the day. Map available HERE.

2017 California Climate Change Symposium!
California Climate Change Symposium 2017 is the premier forum for the sharing of cutting-edge research addressing the impacts of climate change on the state. This research informs the state’s strategies and policies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to develop programs to safeguard California from a changing climate. California Climate Change Symposium 2017 is convened by California Natural Resources Agency, California Environmental Protection Agency, and the Governor’s Office of Planning and Research.

Details: The 2017 symposium will feature preliminary reports from California’s Fourth Climate Change Assessment, a status report on the state’s Climate Change Research Plan, as well as presentations on emerging research.

Call for Abstracts: Reclaiming the Sierra 2017 with the Sierra Fund!
Reclaiming the Sierra 2017 offers a platform for progress toward a more resilient future at the nexus of cutting edge science, forward thinking policy and state of the art technology. This event draws hundreds of leaders in the fields of science, policy, research, environmental regulation, water quality, consulting, mining, public health and environmental advocacy. The Sierra Fund invites interdisciplinary researchers to submit abstracts describing strategies for headwaters resiliency.
Consideration will be given to abstracts that address the following themes:
1. Assessment and Abatement Strategies for Environmental Toxics
2. Ecosystem Function and Resiliency
3. Policies to Promote Responsible Land Use and Management

USDA announced funding to development and adoption of innovative approaches and technologies for conservation on agricultural lands.
