Taylor Parker PhD attends the Global Waste Cleaning Network Conference

Sierra Nevada Alliance

In December, the Alliance’s Forestry Program Director, Taylor Parker, Ph.D., attended the London-based Global Waste Cleaning Network’s virtual conference, focused on combating deforestation, by taking a closer look at some of the dangers and issues concerning deforestation worldwide. Taylor discussed deforestation in Central America and Forestry in the Sierra Nevada with a group of approximately 50 conservation-minded individuals from around the world.

The goal of the meeting was to raise awareness about deforestation and forest-health issues globally. Increasing awareness of our forests’ challenges to a global audience is important for the Sierra because we are a large landscape that is ecologically significant beyond our region. The opportunity to share lessons learned with a group of forest professionals in such a unique event contributes meaningfully to collaborative problem-solving for our collective environment.
