Become a SNAP Member
We are seeking enthusiastic, conservation-minded people to commit to a year of service to protect Sierra Nevada natural resources and sustainable communities. During the year, SNAP members will gain skills and technical training, mentor with outstanding environmental leaders, and help to conserve some of our most treasured landscapes.

Required Qualifications
While each SNAP Position has unique requirements related to the position’s function, the SNAP Program has some general requirements:
- Must be a U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, or Lawful Permanent Resident Alien of the U.S.
- High School Diploma or GED (higher education degrees are highly recommended OR six months of relevant experience in restoration, monitoring, environmental education, or field work. May consider related experience).
- Must be a minimum of 18 years or older.
- Must not have a criminal history that results in the applicant’s inability to serve as an AmeriCorps member.
- Must not have been released for cause from a previous AmeriCorps term of service.
- Must have not served more than 3 previous AmeriCorps terms of service.
Compensation and Benefits
SNAP AmeriCorps members are passionate and committed to the mission of the Sierra Nevada Alliance, SNAP and AmeriCorps. Member’s full-time commitment to serve at a nonprofit organization or public agency in the Sierra Nevada. Below is a breakdown of compensation and benefits based on the service term.
All members qualify for:
- $2,500 stipend per month
- Standard health, dental, and vision insurance
- Student loan forbearance during the service term
- CA subsidized Childcare stipends are available
- Professional Environmental experience and networking- $500 Individual Training Budget ($250 Half Term)
- AmeriCorps members who successfully complete a service term will earn an education award; respective amounts are listed below

What SNAP Members Do
Outreach & Education
Watershed education with local school groups and community members through field trips, citizen science, tabling, and special events.
Monitoring
Water quality monitoring, restoration project monitoring, habitat assessments, and ecological surveys.
Restoration
Meadow and stream assessment, habitat restoration and mitigation projects, management of invasive species, native plants, and trail building.
Volunteer Coordination
Building and maintaining a community of volunteers for watershed steward programs, special events, river clean-ups, and restoration days.
Current Host Sites
Host sites vary on placement, host sites are located throughout the Sierra Nevada range in both California and Nevada.
