Trinity County Fire Safe Council Project Coordinator – Trinity County Resource Conservation District

The Trinity County Resource Conservation District (TCRCD) is accepting applications for a Project Coordinator to support the Trinity County Fire Safe Council program. The Project Coordinator works under the direct supervision of the Trinity County Fire Safe Council Manager. This is a full-time position with flexible scheduling, paid leave, and medical benefits. Weekends and weeknights will be required. District employees are subject to normal management reviews and serve at the discretion of the Board of Directors.
The Project Coordinator will coordinate, promote and implement Fire Safe and Firewise programs and projects in Trinity County. This includes vegetation management, forest health, habitat restoration, planning, monitoring, and education and outreach projects. This position will be responsible for the day-to-day implementation and coordination of projects, events, and programs for the Trinity County Fire Safe Council including but not limited to; the community chipping program, Firewise Community renewals, and the hazard mitigation planning program.
Minimum Qualifications:
- General knowledge of fuels, forestry, and/or fire management; Firewise and Fire Safe initiatives and programming, and community engagement strategies including event coordination.
- Previous experience collaborating with multiple partners to develop strategic plans, landscape assessments, or other reports (please provide links to examples in your resume).
- Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills, including public speaking.
- Ability to communicate with people of all backgrounds.
- Experience supervising staff and projects.
- Self-directed with the ability to prioritize and coordinate work, independently and as part of a team.
- Experience collaborating closely with local, state, and federal partners.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office.
- Proficient with ArcMap, ArcPro, or Google Earth.
- Knowledge and experience working in an office setting and tracking projects.
- Three years or more of combined education and professional experience in natural resources-related projects. And/or a Bachelor or AA in environmental sciences or related natural resources field, such as forestry, fire management, landscape management, watershed sciences, ecology, biology, botany, environmental sciences, etc.
Desired Qualifications:
In addition to the minimum qualifications, the ideal candidate would have:
- Knowledge of conservation districts, nonprofit, and/or grant-based agencies.
- Experience with ongoing fuel reduction and fire management work in Trinity County.
- Previous experience conducting fuel reduction or prescribed fire implementation.
- Previous experience with community engagement, education, and/or council management.
- Experience managing and generating social media content.
- Ability to translate complex scientific data into easily understandable information for public use.
- Red Card Certified and experience as a public information officer, liaison, or resource advisor who has worked on large incident management teams (please provide examples in your resume).
Duties:
Position duties may include the following depending on program needs:
- Assist in proposal development for future projects (Grant/Agreement writing).
- Assist with preparation of and oversight of project contracts.
- Complete on-site inspections to evaluate progress and project compliance with plans, specifications, and overall objectives.
- Coordinate eleven monthly Trinity County Fire Safe Council meetings including minutes and agendas. Promote inclusion for all organizations and individuals to participate.
- Maintain, develop, and update social media, electronic, and print communications.
- Support 10-12 community meetings each year and the annual Wildfire Preparedness Day Fair.
- Support the maintenance of Firewise Community Certifications for 14 Communities in Trinity County, including the development and management of the resident boards for these communities.
- Develop, implement, and monitor plans releated to emergency preparedness, wildfire management, and community resilience with partners.
- Develop and update the Trinity County Community Wildfire Protection Plan on a five year cycle.
- Potential to supervise Conservation Technicians, Grizzly Corps Fellows, and Interns.
- Participate in personnel performance evaluations of subordinate staff.
- Implement the Big Red Truck Program, Neighborhood Ambassador Program, and Local Area Advisor Programs.
- Represent Trinity County Fire Safe Council values and concerns during large incidents.
- Weekend and evening hours are required in this position.
- Develop detailed reports and presentations for projects.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Work Environment:
Approximately 70% Office and 30% on-site event work. Depending on the season and project locations, this position requires flexibility and Saturday hours for events. Teleworking is eligible for driven individuals after the first 6 months on the job. The TCRCD is a family-friendly organization that recognizes the need for flexible scheduling. Weekend and weeknight events will be required as part of this position for community engagement and to participate in collaborative councils.
Prior to hiring, a background check, valid California Driver’s License, current auto insurance, and copy of the current driving record will be requested.

Starting Salary Range:
Placement as a Fire Safe Council Project Coordinator will be based on years of work experience and education level. Starting Hourly wage range is $28.00 to $32 depending on experience.
