Senior Wildlife Biologist – WRA Inc.

Remote, California

As a Senior Wildlife Biologist at WRA, Inc., you will lead and manage wildlife-related projects, contribute to ecological assessments, and provide expert guidance on regulatory compliance. Your role will involve overseeing fieldwork, data analysis, and reporting while mentoring junior biologists and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams. This position is a remote position, within the state of California, with particular interest in the Sacramento region. The person hired for this role will be expected to be onsite at various locations including field sites, client or agency offices, and WRA’s office locations as needed for project requirements and at varying times of day.

In this role, you will be:

  • Working with team leaders, project managers and coordinating with staff including subject matter experts to deliver high quality data and written work products to support infrastructure and development projects throughout northern and Central California
  • Using technical expertise to guide and advise clients as to potential effects to biological resources resulting from projects
  • Conducting biological assessments by compiling data from multiple sources, including performing studies to inform technical biological reports
  • Providing creative strategies and recommendations for avoiding or mitigating project effects on wildlife and wetlands or waters
  • Design and lead surveys for various species and supports other field efforts; conducts construction compliance monitoring
  • Conducts specialized wildlife surveys, including protocol-level to support environmental permit applications
  • Employing sound scientific principles, theories, practices and emerging or innovative technologies to develop solutions for technical problems
  • Apply basic or advanced statistical and geospatial models to analyze large and complex data sets to inform strategic land use and conservation outcomes
  • Oversee and mentor early career wildlife professionals on field and analytical techniques, workflows, professional development
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements: 

  • Degree in wildlife biology, ecology, or a related field
  • 6-10 years of professional experience in wildlife biology and ecological consulting
  • Extensive knowledge of California’s wildlife species, habitats, and applicable state and federal regulations
  • Proven experience leading wildlife projects, including fieldwork, data analysis, and reporting.
  • Familiarity with GIS software for spatial analysis and mapping
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical information effectively
  • Demonstrated project management abilities, including timeline and budget management
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate within interdisciplinary teams
  • Scientific curiosity and wonder for the natural world
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to field sites and meetings
