Full Term Wetland Restoration Technician – Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation

Summary:
The Wetland Restoration Technician will primarily assist in the development of the Rosewood Nature Study Area through research design, field duties, and data collection and analysis.
Mission:
The mission of Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation (TMPF) is to support the parks department’s operations in Truckee Meadows, including Reno, Sparks, and Washoe County. We do this primarily by providing in-park programming and opportunities for citizen engagement. TMPF is an independent, nonprofit organization that began operating in 2013. Our current programs focus on improving community health and wellness and developing peoples’ appreciation for the natural and cultural history found in local parks.
Position Description:
The AmeriCorps Wetland Restoration Technician will be an essential member of the team for this non-profit organization. This person will implement and support the Wetland Restoration Program. This Program aims to restore a decommissioned, city golf course back to a functional wetland system. This AmeriCorps member will assist in restoration through research design, invasive plant removal, native plant establishment, site monitoring, trail maintenance, and community education. Members in this position will have the unique opportunity to lay the foundation for the development of a nature study area in the Truckee Meadows.
Timeline for Service: September 2023 – August 2024
Primary Responsibilities:
- Facilitate the Wetland Restoration Program;
- Implement project logistics;
- Attend weekly crew meetings and debriefs;
- Remove invasive plant species and other debris through manual, mechanical, and chemical techniques;
- Revegetate treated areas with native species through seeding, planting, and plugging;
- Construct and maintain park trails and bridges;
- Monitor plant survival and native species cover;
- Collect and analyze data from multiple sources using google sheets and GIS software;
- Interact with park visitors
Secondary Responsibilities:
- Develop relationships with park visitors;
- Recruit, coordinate, train and retain volunteers;
- Facilitate other interpretive programs such as Truckee Meadows Trails Challenge and Discover Your Parks walks
