Engagement Manager – The Climate Center

Remote, California

Position Description:

Reporting to the Communications Director, the Engagement Manager will use both online and offline organizing strategies to grow The Climate Center’s base of donors, activists, and volunteers across California. This position is focused on two areas: 1) using both paid and organic strategies to acquire potential new supporters; and 2) deepening relationships between the organization and our supporters, converting followers into donors, activists, and volunteers. This position sits within our communications team and will work collaboratively with the development, mobilizing, and policy teams.


  • Develop and execute strategies to build The Climate Center’s base of activists, volunteers, and donors.
  • Working with both the Communications Director and third-party consultants, run paid and organic campaigns to reach new audiences across California.
  • Use a mixture of distributed platforms, social media, and grassroots organizing methods to deepen relationships with The Climate Center’s supporters.
  • Support members of The Climate Center staff, especially the policy and mobilizing teams, in using online and offline engagement tools to advance their objectives.
  • Work with the mobilizing and development teams to expand our constituencies in the Central Valley, Southern California, and other key geographies in California.
  • Work with the Government Affairs Director and other policy team members to activate our base in support of The Climate Center’s policy priorities.
  • In collaboration with the Communications Manager, develop compelling content for The Climate Center’s website and social media channels that drives audiences to action.
  • Uphold The Climate Center’s values of ambition, collaboration, equity, inclusion, innovation, and responsibility.
  • Represent The Climate Center at local community events (tabling, local outreach, etc.) as needed, and support both staff and volunteers to represent The Climate Center in their communities.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Communications Director.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum of three years experience in an advocacy or campaign environment, with a focus on community organizing, digital engagement, marketing, and/or fundraising.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work/volunteer experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with paid and organic approaches to base-building and audience growth.
  • Familiarity with audience analysis, supporter journey mapping, theory of change, and other strategic approaches to engaging and mobilizing audiences toward advocacy and fundraising.
  • Familiarity with digital and data tools such as Slack, Google Drive, Zoom Webinars, EveryAction or other CRMs, as well as distributed action tools such as Action Network and New/Mode.
  • Strong writing skills for advocacy and organizing.
  • A commitment to creating an inclusive, supportive working environment.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Work/volunteer experience in the climate movement is preferred but not required.
  • Experience creating content and conducting community outreach in Spanish is preferred but not required.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range for this position is $70,000 to $85,000, dependent on skills and experience. The Climate Center also offers an excellent benefits package:
