Native Plant Communities in Montane Meadows; Adapting to Change

July 26, 2024 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Register Now

During the past 5 years, the montane meadows of the Sierra Nevada have experienced several years of drought (including the driest year on record), the wettest year on record, and large wildfires. Observations of the response of montane meadow plant communities throughout the Sierra Nevada range will be shared from the perspective of meadow vulnerability and resilience at a landscape level. The impacts of erratic climate behavior and restoration efforts to a local meadow (Thompson Meadow) in the Upper Feather River watershed will be discussed in more detail and be the site for the field tour the next day following the talk.

Terri Rust came to Plumas County in 2007 and has worked in the natural resources field as an instructor at Feather River College, as a private contractor for the Feather River RCD and Feather River Land Trust, and as a conservation planner for NRCS. Since 2017, she has been a monitoring coordinator and project manager for Plumas Corp, a local non-profit organization that specializes in meadow restoration.
