Truckee 2040 is the next blueprint for growth and conservation over the next 20+ years. Important priorities for MAP have been protecting open space, preserving mountain character, and advocating for the local workforce. We’ve been activating the community to participate since 2018, and we are not done yet!

While decision makers may argue the process has taken too long, we recognize the importance of getting future policies, programs, zoning, and mitigation right to handle the already planned growth, let alone increased density proposed in Truckee 2040. With rising tourism and land use plans to add additional density to heavily constrained areas, we need to start being realistic about what Truckee can sustain and who we are trying to be sustainable for? If full buildout creates a population of 50,000 residents, are we planning to LOVE Truckee to death?

It is time to weigh in and advocate for land use planning and policies that consider Truckee’s scenic beauty, natural resources, public safety, and fabric of the community, the local workforce. MAP members, your first drink is on us!
