Itinerary: Thursday 7/25/24 evening arrival. Friday 7/26/24 field tour & Friday night BBQ. Saturday CFSC business meeting and optional ½ day morning tour.

Registration Fee: REGISTRATION IS HERE. The Registration fee is $100.  It is free for students. Please consider donating to help support a student.  Payment includes camping at NOMA Resort, make your own breakfast (bagels, muffins, fruit), build your own lunch (sandwich platter, bread, condiments) and an evening BBQ (burgers, etc.). Limited Zinke Fund travel stipends available based on need, for students, tribal members, or others ($200 max). Contact: Lia.Webb@swca.com.

Accommodation: Camping is in an undeveloped area at NOMA resort.  There will be bathrooms and water.  Camping will be by the “Sierra House” cabin at NOMA resort. Think camping at your friend’s house as opposed to camping at a developed camp site in a campground. There are a few (4) “glamping” domes that are reservable through the resort website. If you would like a glamping dome, please act now, by reserving one through the NOMA resort website!  CFSC will only be providing a place to camp. All other accommodations are up to you!

Food: On Friday 7/26/2024, CFSC will provide a build your own breakfast (bagels, muffins, fruit), build your own lunch (sandwich platter, bread, condiments) and an evening BBQ (burgers, etc.). Soft drinks and water will be provided as well.

Themes: We will be visiting the Creek Fire area, and the surrounding forest.  Stops include soil effects of repeated high severity fire, meadow restoration, fuels treatments, drone imaging and postfire reforestation.  We will present research on soil burn severity mapping with machine learning, the environmental effects of fire retardants, and biogeochemical impacts of repeated high severity fire. This will be a fun and engaging tour touching on critical topics in California forest soils, hydrology, ecology, forestry and geospatial modeling.  We will include maps and geospatial data to be accessed via AVENZA (Free) on your phone or tablet as we get closer to the date.  Check this google drive link for maps (TBD)!
