Alliance Staff Attends Watershed Improvement Program Summit

The Sierra Nevada Conservancy’s annual Watershed Improvement Program Summit was held on March 1, 2023, and several of Sierra Nevada Alliance’s very own were in attendance.

Alliance staff were impressed by the creativity and perseverance of the presenters, by embracing non-traditional partnerships and out-of-the-box thinking to more flexibly address the needs of natural and human systems across the Sierra. Breaking the flow of how things have been done in the past can be challenging, but necessary to address the natural resource issues we’re facing and what we need in order to be successful.

A common theme that resonated with our staff and Sierra Corps Fellows was an insufficient workforce to address conservation needs at the pace and scale necessary. Our Fellows and AmeriCorps members are one way the Alliance is working to address this issue, by building a successful green workforce.

The Summit was an inspiring reminder that creative collaboration and non-traditional problem-solving, along with adequate funding, can lead to impressive results.

If you were unable to attend in person, a recording of the summit is available online.
