We need your help urgently. We want to help keep our AmeriCorps Members paid through the end of their term. We are asking for donations to pitch in and help raise funds to transition our AmeriCorps to paid internships so they can finish their terms. They have 5 months remaining. We have 25 members and need roughly $20k per member to make up for the DOGE grant termination. Any amount you can donate TODAY helps us towards this goal.
The backstory: On Friday, April 25, our worst suspicions came true. Into the weekend we slowly learned that our state commission received notices terminating virtually their entire grant portfolio, including the AmeriCorps Service Program. As detailed in this analysis and statement by America’s Service Commissions, 98% (over 1000 programs and 32,000 members)of grant awards to states were terminated as part of this action. Legal action is already underway to reverse these terminations, and state commissions are trying to find emergency funding, but at present we are expecting the program to cease. This is unprecedented and there is no blueprint for this.
The impact to the Sierra Nevada region is immense. This year just the Sierra Nevada AmeriCorps Partnership alone, has 25 Members serving at over twenty host sites across the Sierra (10 in Tahoe). The members still have 5 months of service remaining. Our program track record, over the past 18 years speaks for itself. The capacity this program provides is unmatched. We. have over 500 alumni who have graduated from our program and gone on to be conservation leaders in the region.
Please donate today to help pay AmeriCorps members through the end of their term.
