Clean California is a $1.2 billion endeavor, launched by Governor Newsom in July 2021. The program is a multiyear effort to remove litter, create thousands of jobs, and engage communities statewide to reclaim, transform, and beautify public spaces in Caltrans District 3. District 3 includes 11 counties in Northern California: Butte, Colusa, El Dorado, Glenn, Nevada, Placer, Sacramento, Sierra, Sutter, Yolo, and Yuba.
During the program’s first year, Caltrans managed initial clean-up and beautification efforts throughout the state. In addition to completing safety and beautification projects and public art installations, we collected over 10,000 tons of trash. Continuing this effort, we’re launching an educational campaign to engage communities and the media to increase awareness of the sources of litter and boost pride statewide. We want to touch every Californian and move everyone to act to protect our beautiful state and its natural resources.
This statewide 10-day event kicks off Friday, March 17, with a big splash of activities occurring on Saturday, March 25. The goal is to work together to clean up our communities and spread the word about taking pride in keeping California clean.
Caltrans will also also be hosting several community Dump Days in district 3, where residents and organizations can bring their non-hazardous household waste to a maintenance station free of charge. Organize a community cleanup and bring your trash!
Caltrans looks forward to working with you to promote a cleaner California!
