SUMMARY:WSN Virtual Workshop: Building our Collaborative Capacity with Beavers
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””] \n\n\n\nWhat if beavers were not just a challenge to manage\, but partners in watershed stewardship? Join Watershed Solutions Network and the WATER Institute at Occidental Arts & Ecology Center (OAEC) for a virtual conversation exploring how beavers can help us restore healthier\, more resilient watersheds. Drawing on the work of OAEC’s Bring Back the Beaver Campaign\, their California Beaver Coexistence Training and Support Program\, and the new California Beaver Help Desk\, this workshop will invite participants to see beavers as ecosystem engineers whose presence can help slow floodwaters\, improve water quality\, expand wetland habitat\, and reduce drought and wildfire impacts.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKate Lundquist\, WATER Institute Director; Grey Hayes\, PhD\, Beaver Coexistence Program Manager; and Brock Dolman\, WATER\, RCD/Permaculture & Wildlands Program Director\, will share insights from their Bring Back the Beaver Campaign and introduce the California Beaver Help Desk\, a statewide resource created to help landowners\, managers\, and communities turn “beaver problems into beaver solutions.” The Help Desk offers technical support\, financial assistance\, and training opportunities. \nJoin us on Thursday\, March 26\, from 12:00–2:00 PM for this exciting virtual workshop. \nThis workshop is for farmers\, watershed practitioners\, land managers\, local government leaders\, conservation partners\, funders\, and anyone interested in expanding our collective capacity to steward water\, land\, and community in more connected ways. \nIn this workshop\, participants will: \nLearn why beaver coexistence matters for watershed health and community resilience \nExplore how the Beaver Help Desk supports practical\, affordable coexistence strategies \nHear examples of how beaver-related conflicts can be addressed in ways that are more durable and constructive than repeated removal or damage response \nStrengthen their understanding of how collaboration across sectors can support beaver-informed watershed stewardship \nRegister here by Wednesday\, March 25\, 2026. Registration is required to receive the Zoom link. \nWe look forward to this exciting discussion and hope you can join us. You are welcome to share this invitation with your colleagues.\n\n\n\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:SNA Monthly Webinar Series: Sierra Wildlife Habitat Connectivity
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””] \nSNA Two Part Webinar\nPart 1: Sierra Wildlife Habitat Connectivity\nThe Sierra Nevada holds continental-scale significance for wildlife connectivity\, serving as a critical bridge between ecosystems spanning from the Cascades to the Mojave Desert. As species such as wolves\, mule deer\, pine marten\, Sierra Nevada red fox\, and porcupine navigate an increasingly fragmented landscape\, maintaining connected habitats across the Sierra is essential to their long-term survival. In this webinar\, Mari Galloway will highlight how wildlife crossings\, research\, policy\, and restoration efforts are helping reconnect and restore landscapes across the Sierra Nevada. \nAs California Program Director\, Mari leads initiatives to enhance wildlife connectivity and protect core habitats statewide. With policy expertise and a deep passion for California’s ecology\, she strategically connects partners\, resources\, and information for data-driven ecosystem efforts. Mari’s work coordinating wildlife crossings\, advancing research\, and collaborating with diverse stakeholders informs policy solutions and addresses systemic barriers. She holds a BS in environmental science from Cal Poly Humboldt and a law degree from the University of Oregon. \nThis talk is part of the Sierra Nevada Alliance monthly webinar series. SUMMARY:Forest Protection Forum
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””] \nAlex Craven will discuss “Forests and Fire: How did we get here? Where do we go?” \nRegister HERE to join. \nIn our present moment\, we can look back at more than a century of mismanagement of our federal forests\,  while also facing an uncertain climate future. At the same time\, administrative changes and misguided legislation take us in the wrong direction. \nThe question for us to answer now is: how do we conserve old-growth forests\, restore the right relationship between fires and forests\, and ensure communities are protected and prepared? This presentation will discuss those questions and a path to achieving our objectives. \nAlex Craven is Sierra Club’s Forest Campaign Manager. He advances strong conservation policies for forested public lands overseen by the US Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management through grassroots organizing\, partnership development\, and advocacy. Alex spent roughly a decade in the evergreen ecosystems of the pacific northwest before returning to the northeastern hardwoods in his home state of Vermont. Prior to his time with Sierra Club\, Alex worked in the US Senate on a portfolio that ranged from housing to higher education. \nWe hope to see you there. \nThe Stop Clearcutting CA Team \nNote: Recordings for past forums\, including our recent forum\, MO’s Defensible Space\, can be found here.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Bridges and Boardwalks: Planning\, Design\, and Construction
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]From simple puncheons to complex engineered crossings\, bridges and boardwalks play a critical role in creating safe\, sustainable\, and accessible trail experiences. This session explores the full lifecycle of these structures— from planning and design through on-the-ground construction. Aaron will examine different trail and structure types\, site considerations\, and material options\, while exploring how to balance function\, aesthetics\, and environmental impact. Real-world examples and technical guidance will highlight how to adapt construction techniques to terrain\, climate\, and use types. \nLearning Objectives:\nIdentify appropriate bridge and boardwalk types based on type of trail\, site conditions\, and user needs. \nApply best practices for planning\, material selection\, and foundation design to ensure structural integrity and longevity. \nIntegrate technical construction methods that enhance safety\, minimize environmental impact\, and support efficient installation.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Lewis Hill Wildflower Walk
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””] \nStep into a landscape rarely seen.\n\n\nFor one day each year\, access is granted to Lewis Hill Preserve—a protected site normally closed to the public and home to rare plants\, unique geology\, and thriving wildlife. This self-guided hike offers a chance to explore rolling hills alive with seasonal wildflowers\, learn from experts stationed along the trail\, and experience a place shaped by stewardship and care. \nLewis Hill does not have an address. Click here for directions. \n  \nWhy Lewis Hill Matters\nLewis Hill is one of the few places where the Striped Adobe Lily\, a threatened wildflower\, continues to survive. This tiny bloom depends on the preserve’s unusual serpentine soils—rocky\, mineral-rich terrain that supports plant and animal life found almost nowhere else. Along the trail\, sweeping wildflower displays\, burrowing owls\, and a variety of bird species reveal how geology and biology intersect in this sensitive habitat. \n  \nWhat to Expect\nThis is a moderate hike over uneven terrain and natural surfaces. The experience is self-guided\, allowing exploration at a personal pace with staffed stations along the route focused on geology\, birding\, and wildflowers. At the top\, kite flying adds a moment of lightness and joy before heading back down. \n  \nCome Prepared\n\nUneven footing throughout the trail\nBoots or sturdy hiking shoes strongly recommended\nBring water and sun protection\nStay on designated trails\nFollow Leave No Trace principles to protect sensitive plant life\n\nPreparation helps ensure a safe experience for both visitors and the land. \n  \nRSVP & Attendance Details\nAttendance is limited to protect the preserve. RSVP is required. No walk-ups will be accepted. \n\nCapacity is capped at 250 guests\nParking is limited; carpooling is strongly encouraged\nAdditional parking information will be shared closer to the event\n\nLewis Hill does not have an address. Click here for directions. \n  \nCost & Donations\nThis event is free to attend. A minimum donation of $20 per person is recommended to support habitat protection\, stewardship\, and the continued care of Lewis Hill. Donations will be accepted on-site via cash\, check\, or card. \n  \nStewardship Comes First\nAccess to Lewis Hill is possible because protection remains the priority. Visitors are asked to tread lightly\, respect posted guidance\, and help ensure this rare landscape remains intact for the species that depend on it—and for future generations to experience responsibly. \n\n\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
